Don’t give up!

Hey, world!
Gosh I haven’t been around lately have I? I bet your all wondering were I’d gone? No, Okay.
Anyway… Today I had a revelation. Well a little one. I realised that the reason why everyone isn’t making money on the Internet, simply because they give up! They get to something and they say “
that’s too hard”, or they think “when am I gunna make some money?” and go back to their normal day jobs!
Oh who does that remind me of? No not me! No my Dad, He’s always saying “oh it’s all well and good you can do so and so, but when are you going to make some money?” He doesn’t realise that it takes time!

One very famous example is Dr.Martin Luther King.  He had a dream that every black Man and Women, Children and Elderly should have Freedom and the same rights as white people.

Full Version or Dr. Martin Luther King’s Freedom speech (17:28)

As silly as it sounds, If you have a dream to make money on the Internet, don’t let anything stop you. Dr. Martin Luther King was shot just before he was due to lead a protest march.
Hopefully you wont die, but there will be hard times, but don’t give up!Another example is Rose Kelly from Waterloo Road. Now you oldies probably won’t even know her and The Gazz-man definitely won’t, because I don’t think they have Waterloo Road down in the Oz! But she is a single mother of 4, who really tries to turn her life around.

She used to be a drunken weirdo, who didn’t look after her kids, but she tried so hard to give up her addiction and got a job at the school cafeteria and joined adult learning course and a friend really helped her with it. He took her to all the meetings and so on. And the head teacher of the school always encouraged her when every one’s in doubt.
This message is that you can’t do everything on your own. You all know who helps you and one day you will be helping others. Don’t try and do it all on your own!
It’s like when your learning to ride a bike, your parents were always there holding on and you were saying “Don’t let go, don’t let go!” secretly wishing they would. And one day you will find your riding on your own, with no help. But of course there will always be times when you fall off, but you will pick yourself up again and carry on!

My last example is… Guess who! Me!! Yes me! You may skip this part if you wish; I know I can go on a bit! A bit, what is she talking about? She could go on for her life! But seriously, recently, well kind off recently! I passed my Grade 1 Oboe exam with Distinction :D . For those of you who don’t know, Distinction is the best thing you can get :D !
As I’m sure my Mum can tell you, many days I would be coming home from school being so annoyed with my Oboe teacher. But I carried on!

At the beginning of my first year at my school, I had to decide whether I wanted to play a musical instrument or not, I knew I really wanted to play the Saxophone so I wrote that down. The next day we were told what instruments we could play and Saxophone wasn’t one of them, I asked my teacher and she said we had no-one to teach it. So a few days later we listened to our Woodwind teacher play all the different Woodwind instruments. I had already kind of decided to play the flute because my cousin played it, but when I heard the Clarinet and learnt that it was closest to the Saxophone so then I decided to play that. The next day I heard the Oboe, and woah don’t they sound good! I wrote that down on my list and handed it in. I also had many people in my group come and go and it made it very hard for me not to leave. The people I am with now had learnt scales at the same time as me; this is the only reason why I did my Exam at the same time as them. What I find ridiculous (and sorry for me moaning) is that he somehow thinks he can hold it against me that when I got a bit of my scale wrong that I’ve known it way longer than everyone else!

I can’t remember how long it was, but eventually I was told I would be playing the Oboe. I was happy at first, but after a while I stopped enjoying practising. I didn’t like my teacher and the only thing that was driving me forward was the fact that I thought that soon I would be doing my Grade 1. It was really hard for me because all my friends were doing there’s and they kept bragging that they’d already done theirs and meaning that they were better than me. Also I saw on the desk a letter to hand in about doing Grade 1 with my name on it, but I never got it. He obviously didn’t want to give it too me and it wasn’t that he had forgotten.

Finally I was ready to do my Exam. I really tried to work on the things that I found difficult, but I got barely any support from my teacher so I relied heavily on my mum for support.  When I was rehearsing for my exam at the school I was going to be examined at, I mucked up one of my pieces and I was convinced I would muck up in my exam. But I did say that I was really nervous and apparently I didn’t look it!

The next month I got my results back. There were three of us taking our exam and our teacher said “Well done everyone, you have all past with merit!” He read out every one’s marks and I was the last one. Everyone had done really well and got really good marks but when he got to me he said “Oh, I was wrong you didn’t all get merit.” and I was like Oh no, great I’ve failed! Then he told me I got Distinction! Yay!

And that just about sums up my lecture (LOL). If you stick with it, even though it seems tough. It will be worth it!
And for those of you who are thinking, well I stick with things, I get to the end, but it’s never worth it! Yes it was worth it, you’ve learnt loads of things by getting to the end. If you still don’t believe me speak to my dad, he knows all about getting to the end and not everything being as you expect it. You can find him on my blog roll under cool people, he has also recently set up his twitter, I’m not sure what is it so you will have to ask him, but its worth having a chat with him he’s a wise guy!

And finally I will finish with a few questions for you…

What have you had to pursue through but have been glad you did it?

What have you done that has taken a while and made you think, was it worth my while?

And finally, one to help others…  How did you get to the end?

Thank you for reading my massive lecture.

Hello Lizzie,

Maybe you aren’t real happy with me at the mo coz I DID “lecture” you over at my blog but…

… Lizard… have you got your lizard eyes rivetted to this?

I say things to HELP people not to be supercilious or falsely seeking to be popular. The GAZZMAN tells it like it needs to be told. Hence, my comments.

Congratulations on being an oboe player par-excellence.

You are correct – I have NO IDEA who Rose Kelly is but I now know about her.

You asked:

“What have you had to pursue through but have been glad you did it?”

Well, I don’t even need to think about that. As you probably know I have studied karate for almost 40 years. I train every day and I mean EVERY day – rain, hail (it did that today) or shine, freezing cold or stinking hot – it makes NO difference.

I guess one would be fairly good at something if one did that – OR a damn slow learner.

I aint a slow learner – even though the guys and girls in Las Vegas saw me muck around like a complete nincompoop a lot of the time (check out the videos on my blog or YouTube).

Today I am one of the highest ranked karate exponents in the world. I’m glad I trained so hard and suffred the exhaustion and the pain and the sweat – not the injuries though.

Anyway toots that’s enough for now – and don’t forget what I said!

Hey Lizzie

I think you blogs lookin good, except for the calendar. Who cares what day it is anyhow. I met your buddy the Gazz man in Las Vegas at the Alex Jeffreys workshop. He is a great guy and any advice he give you is pure gold. Very smart man.

Just wanted to tell you I like your blog and you are right about people not making money on the Internet. They give up an move on to the next “great thing” far to often. They never give themselves a chance to make money because they are always chasing it.

Keep up the good work

Hey Lizzie,

Firstly – fantastic blog post you have here and congratulations on getting your “Distinction” on the oboe.

Oh and before I forget – thanks for recently dropping by my blog – I totally forgot about it and have like 41 comments to sort through later.

Anyway…. where was I, before I got sidetracked …

Oh yes…. your views about those people not making money on the internet, giving up and expecting success too quickly – you certainly hit the nail on the head, but did you know there’s also another reason why people fail to make money on the internet or not much of it anyway?

You probably already know it…

That’s is… they diversify themselves far too much and try every single business opportunity in one go… and then they get lost, information overload or just completely lose the plot

Would one call that desperation for success, or just plain bonkers? I’m not sure, what do you think.

On a different note….. le questions:

Erm…. Who’s Rose Kelly btw?

And have I you had to pursue through but have been glad you did it?

What have you done that has taken a while and made you think, was it worth my while?

For the above questions: I could mention a lot of things, but I think I will mention about my university degree battle – the battle between me and my friend, the only other student on our course and the lecturers who challenged us and make our lives difficult the 3 years of the course.

I mean, have you ever seen lectures so unprepared that it ends up the students depicting how the module would move forward, assignments brief that were written in such bad grammar that even a twelve year old would laugh hilariously at? Not to mention that one would require an enigma machine just to decipher the assessment criteria of what the lecturers expected students to reach in order to attain a certain grade point – lol

We certainly weren’t slackers either, for 3 hard years, we were like slaves, working from 9am in the morning through to 1am the next morning – only stopping for one lunch break and the occasional toilet break.

The intensive hours of dedication of which one point included us both dominating the entire PC labs for 2 days intensively on numerous occasions, using 20 different pcs and doing over 2000 simulation tests just in order to attain a certain grade criteria – it was mad.

Come to think of it – it was mad – you can check out some of the C.A.D. work I did for my course at

http://www.youtube.com/user/NYDesigns–

Total solid 20 hours each day on the comp just to design a toilet to actual real life proportion – lol

Not to mention the complete redesign of an toaster including the assembly and component within, and making videos for it too which took donkey years to process and make.

The end outcome was that we wanted to achieve the best grades, redefine the standard for the years to come and to ensure we did, we kept challenging each other to do better and put ourselves in a competition mentality against other students who were on the similar modules as us.

This competition mode certainly help kept us motivated, determined and focused and unlike others we quietly worked in the background whilst others boasted and failed miserably, because they gave up and were not persistance.

We on the other hand were like… if there’s a problem we would stay up all day, all night just trying to work out the problem until we found the solution.

Overall, the outcome was that I and my friend graduated with a good honours degree, we defeated the odds against many setbacks, and we had a wonderful graduation ceremony.

Most importantly our parents, friends and family were proud of us. We set out to achieve and redefine expectations and we did just that!!!!

Anyway apologies about the long post – I guess I do get carried away with the keyboard.

Best Regards
Nigel

PS: Looking forward to your new posts!!!

Hey Lizzie,

fellow student of Alex Jeffreys, he has so many! Nice looking blog. Isn’t it frustrating when friends and loved ones look on at what your doing and ask “where’s the money?”. I believe everyone has a gift, and people learn and pick things up in their own time, and as long as you stay consistent with putting the effort in, and learn from your mistakes, you’ll make it, in your own time. I know someone who is making an incredible amount of money right now, it didn’t happen over night, it took her 5 yrs. Success doesn’t always happen overnight, so stick with it k? ;-)

Good post Lizzie, truly inspiring.

Thinking of it my greatest accomplishment is probably within football. When I was a kid I spent my time competing swimming, but got bored. When I turned about 10 I started to play football. I where never one of the good players and I usually spent 5-10 minutes playing in the end. When I grow older I got the chance to play over age and it really helped me to grow and take responsibility. Two years ago I played all of the matches for both our first team and reserve team (50) and in the end of the season I got a price for the most successful youth player in the club.

A bit mixed-up now but my message is to never give up! If you hang in their you’ll will develop.

Thanks for recently dropping by my blog with your comments, ideas and suggestion re: emails. I think you should put up a blog post about it, perhaps you could also discuss about how to use email effectively, or extra tips on how one can ensure emails does not invade or overpower one’s daily lives etc….

Anyway, hope you have a wonderful summer holiday.
