Things to do on a small budget, or for free!

1. Go to the Beach:

The Beach is free and it’s a great place to spend time with your family or friends. There many activities that can be done on the beach, such as beach ball, sand castle making (for younger children), Swimming in the sea (depending on how warm it is!), Surfing and Body boarding. At most beaches such as Cornwall or Blackpool there are piers or arcades, these offer a wide range of things to do and they don’t have to cost a fortune. The downside to this is that in the winter the beach is less enjoyable but it doesn’t mean you can’t wrap up warm and go for a walk!

2. The Park:

The Park can be a great place for new families to interact with one another in outdoor games or sports. It is also a place where many people go, meaning that anyone can meet new people and even meet up with friends without knowing it! It is also a place to take pets especially dogs were they can run around with children or other dogs, without getting into trouble. The park is free and often a nice place to have a picnic as it is a very friendly environment.

3. Hotel Pools:

Generally hotel pools are for guests only, however many hotels will let you bring your friends and family so long as you don’t disturb the hotel guests. Many hotel pools can also have full scale amenities such as bars, restaurants, and additional activities for the friends and the family to enjoy.

4. Rent a movie:

Renting movies can be very expensive or cheap, it’s finding the right company to rent from. Blockbuster usually has good deals that aren’t too expensive but really it depends on how much you have to spend. If you find the right company renting movies can be ever so much cheaper than going to the cinema and you can get popcorn for about a pound instead of three! It also means that you can watch it again and again until you have to give it back, and you can pause it if you need the loo! But the best thing is there isn’t half an hour of trailers before the film!

5. Host Get Togethers:

Most people enjoy the intimate atmosphere of a few friends getting together and will bring drinks and other goodies to the get together. It’s a good idea to ask friends to bring their friends with them too, meaning that you can meet new people. It’s a chance to have fun without spending a fortune and it can start and end when you like!

6. Spend Time With Your Family:

Family is perhaps the most important thing in our lives and too many times we take advantage of what we have and do not appreciate it until it is gone. Make a concerted effort just to spend time with your family and inform them what is going on in your life. At any moment a family member can be taken away from you and you will regret not having spent the time with them.

7. Playing board or card games:

Playing board or card games can be great fun, you can play them with your family or friends or even work mates! There a wide variety of games that you can play, from ages 6-7 to 60-70! Many people think of these sorts of games as childish, but really they’re not, because there are so many different games that they haven’t even heard of yet. You can even make up your own!

8. Workout in Your Neighbourhood:

Your neighbourhood will provide you with all the terrain and challenges to get a full and quality workout. From running through the city or countryside to doing push-ups on a park or bus bench, your full body workout can be achieved for free.

This is a great start.

Lots of people complain that they cannot afford to do anything, but you’ve found lots of things already and I’m sure that there are plenty more.

I like to read and you don’t have to buy books – you can always go to the library and borrow them or borrow them from friends.

If you do want to buy books you can get them much cheaper buying second hand from Amazon or at charity shops and when you have read them you can take them back. The charity can then sell them again and raise more money, so that helps the charity as well as being good for saving you money.

Hello Lizzie,

I have been talking to Hilary over at the home of the Gazz-man (that is me). She has been telling us all how proud she is of you (ohhhhhhhhh Mu-um!) and about the dress she made with you.

I like your list of things to do. I am a lover of board games and I have even invented one called “Budo” which is similar (in theme only) to Monopoly. Actually, it is NOTHING like Monopoly. It is much better. I just said that so you could picture it in your mind. I also like to play cards – euchre is my specialty.

Anyway, I just thought I would come over and see what you are up to. Your blog is different to many that I am familiar with (wordpress). Keep up the good work!

Regards and Best Wishes

Hi Gary

Thanx, I’m a beginner at this blogging stuff but I’ve sometimes watched you given lessons to my mum and your other students. It did help, but you’re all doing different types of blog than mine.

I wonder if you can help me, I have asked my family this and they didn’t know (or they weren’t listening!) but on my front page do you know anyways to make it look more interesting. My site is free so I can’t do all fancy stuff but I can do basic stuff.

Thanx
Lizzie

I’ve just got this WordPress blog going and I have copied over the posts and the comments from there.

I can now do the things on WordPress that other people are doing, so some of the things that were in the above three posts are not true anymore.

Lizzie…

WOW!

You are blowing me away here. I cannot believe how advanced your thinking is for your age. I am SO impressed with you.

“I can now do the things on WordPress that other people are doing, so some of the things that were in the above three posts are not true anymore.”

You certainly can, my dear. I hope mum and dad are proud of you coz I sure am.

Now, for some craziness – go and see my reply to you over at the TEMPLE!

Best Wishes

Gary Simpson

PS: I see I am on your blogroll. I hope your friends are “warned” if they click on that link. The Gazz-Man can be a naughty boy. In fact, I’m hopeless and I really don’t want to corrupt (any further, that is) any young minds. And I MEAN that. Talk to Mum about that. She will give you good advice on what is acceptable or not.

Lizzie,

I was just about to click away and I noticed that you don’t have “Permalinks” installed. Ask Hilary about it coz I know she just installed it on her own blog.

Or, if you want to be a clever sausage, just go and have a look at the comment I made over at Renee Olsen’s blog. You will see the code I left there and you can try installing it yourself. It’s pretty easy. You can’t really muck things up too much. Have a crack at it. Ask Mum if you aren’t too sure.

Just to explain…

Basically, the permalink code will allow the search engines like Google and Yahoo to index your site so much easier and faster.

Hello Lizzie,

Wow, you are doing so well for just starting out.

If you’ve caught the eye of my friend Gazza then I thought I better come over and have a look for myself.

Soon, I reckon you will helping out your Mum and showing here what to do rather than the other way around. Us ‘oldies’ often aren’t as good as the techie stuff as you youngsters, though and sure you have a more cool (kewl?) and descriptive term for us ‘oldies’ than that, LOL

You asked over at Gazza’s blog about things to write about. Basically, anything and everything. You’ll make mistakes as you go along but don’t worry, we all do.

When you’ve worked out how to sort your permalinks out write about it. Another good thing to do is sort out the default Main Menu and add an ‘About Me’ page as anyone coming to the blog for the first time won’t know anything about you. Again write about how you did it when you find out how.

Good luck with your blogging and get yourself on Twitter too same as your Mum. I was Twittering with here last night and it’s a kewl way to get connected and addictive.

Hi Lizzie,

I’m also on the same course as your mum and Gary (above), so I thought I’d pop over and have a look. I really like your blog theme, it looks great!

If you have any questions then feel free to ask any of us – if one of us can’t help we’ll probably know someone that can & will be able to point you in the right direction.

Lizzie,

I have seen your mum talk abiut your blog on hers but I never saw a link. Your site looks very good and you are getting some very good experience by creating. it.

In addition to the permalinks that Gary mentioned you might want to visit Linda Carolls blog and add her “ping” list
(your mum can probably help with this if you need it) this will get your blog recognized each time the is a post added.

Hi Lizzie,

I think it really great that you list your mother, together with Gazzman as a cool person.

Whois Gazzman? Is he your Grand-dad?

Don’t tell him I asked that ;-)

Your blog looks really cool, much better than your Mim’s. I think I just broke her theme by writing a long comment there.

I am linking here to my family blog because the one I write as one of Alex Jeffreys’ students is being overhauled.

Anyway the one I show tells you far more about where I live, my own daughters and what it’s like to live on a Mediterranean Beach.

Every success to you,

Stephen

Howdy Lizzard,

Now I come here today, totally “COOL” as ever, with a little tip for you dearest…

But FIRST close those delicate eyes of yours or cover this next bit with your hand for a sec will you?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BRAYSIE! What’s this BS about me being the Lizzard’s Grand-Dad. Keep that cr*p up and I’ll give you the what-for mate!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Now, Lizzard, as you know, the Gazz-Man has prepared his Motivational Moment Video #2. It’s probably gonna be viewed by 100′s if not 1,000′s in the next few weeks. Oh! Dang! I’m being modest (again!) – maybe 10′s of 1,000′s. Got that?

You’re in it… right? At the end… right? It’s all to do with you “cracking up” over the Gazz-Man’s MMV#1… right?

Now, I notice that you only come back here sort of occasionally – probably after you finish playing with your cabbage patch dolls or barbies or watching Pokemon or something… right? Or maybe after doing homework – MUCH better!

… Are you following the Gazz-Man up to here?

So, here’s the deal…

… if you wanna make your blog work then you GOTTA – and the Gazz-Man means GOTTA – be a wee bit more active. Understando?

Now, I do hope that you will soon have Denis Caron’s youngsters and Parkesy’s young bloke Aaron the Baron to talk totally rad-stuff with and maybe a few of your own gang soon. But the Gazz-Man is giving you some creds here. Right? So, take advantage of it. Get in here and get active.

When the other youngsters get in here you can then be the “authority.” Coz I’m tellin’ ya, if Parkesy’s young bloke is anything like Parkesy then he’ll wanna be the numero uno and take over. Are you getting the Gazz-Man’s drift?

Active! OK?

The COOL dude.

Yer I know I don’t come on here often enough :( but I am writing another post. What’s that all about Barbie’s! You got there in the end though, homework unfortunately true.

Just replying from your other comment you left at your temple for me, yes I suppose I did call you cool so think of it as my nickname to you.
